Adrian Tomine's attempt to place Optic Nerve in a historical context has at the very
least produced nice books in the U.S. for Yoshihiro Tatsumi. Hardcover, with alot of
care. Each book has interviews with Tatsumi about late 60's era "gekiga". The comics
themselves are not so much well written as lyrically toned, dead pan illustration with
heaps of old-fashioned misogyny tossed in. Is that how we get people to read books -
by marginalizing women? I`m looking at you, Bukowski. From the pages of Garo.
