Days of Heaven

Days of Heaven is Terrence Malick's Wuthering Heights. I didn't really like the film until I realized this. I found it somewhat boring. The shots didn't linger long enough and the audio seemed lossy. However, when the owner of the farm stands on the roof, the sky to his back with a huge windmill beating crazily, enraged, watching richard gere kiss his wife - I realized this was exactly as emily bronte had implied, an angry young man is like a stormy sky. Promptly, the fields were set on fire. Inasmuch as the surrealists and Bunuel favored Bronte and L'amour fou it almost makes the film a surrealist ode. For sure it was interesting playing the landscapes from Days of Heaven against the alien landscape shots of the earth's moon in For All Mankind. I watched them both today. That being said the cinematography was ok but it didn't breathe. This is no There Will Be Blood.
